When filling out your application to UT Knoxville, select which degree you’re most interested in for your first choice major: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture, or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Ìý

For first-year students, we only admit architecture or interior architecture applicants to the fall semester. Graphic design applicants can select spring or fall entry terms.

We strongly encourage you to apply by the university’s early-action deadline of November 1. First-year applications are due by December 15.ÌýÌýÌý

External TransfersÌý

If you are attending a different institution and are interested in transferring to UT for one of our programs, you must complete the general university application. When filling out your application, select which degree you’re most interested in for your first choice major: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, or Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture. A college GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for consideration.Ìý

We encourage you to attend one of our virtual transfer student information sessions (see below); these are curated specifically for transfer students and will review information about the application process, important deadlines, and give you an opportunity to ask any questions you have.Ìý

Please note: the summer transfer program is for architecture and interior architecture applicants only. It is an intensive program that requires students to be in class all day, up to three days per week, for the full summer session. Once you successfully complete the summer transfer program, you will join the second-year cohort in the fall semester.Ìý

Internal TransfersÌý

Current UTÌýstudents interested in transferring into our college areÌýrequiredÌýto attend one of our virtual transfer student information sessions prior to applying to the program (see below). Upon completion of a session, you will be given access to an internal application form. A UT GPA of 2.5 or higher is required for consideration.Ìý

The final deadline for internal transfer applications is as follows:

  • Architecture and Interior Architecture (Summer or Fall Start): March 15
  • Graphic Design – Spring Start: December 15
  • Graphic Design – Fall Start: July 15

You will be formally notified by email regarding your admission status and term of entry: summer, fall, or spring. Upon acceptance, your major will officially change, and you may set up an advising appointment in our Center for Student Development to discuss your new academic plan.Ìý

Transfer Student Information SessionÌý

All internal transfer students are required to attend an information session prior to applying to any of our programs.ÌýExternal transfer applicants are also encouraged to attend. This presentation will offer invaluable insight into the process of applying to our college and what to expect if admitted.ÌýÌýÌýÌý

Dual Degree Programs Ìý

Earn two degrees in six years! Undergraduate students in our college are able to enroll in a dual degree program following the start of their semester by visiting our Center for Student Development.

Master of ArchitectureÌý

The School of Architecture offers two tracks, for students with or without an architecture education, leading to a professional Master of Architecture. We strongly encourage you to apply by the program’s priority admission deadline of February 1. This is also the University’s deadline for prospective international students.

The School of Architecture’s Admissions Committee requires supplemental material to help us evaluate your readiness for study in the M.Arch program. These include your Statement of Intent and Portfolio. More information can be found when you start your application through the University’s Graduate School.

The 2G track admits students looking to complete a 4+2 pathway, including those holding a BSÌýin architecture from a NAAB-accredited institution. This program typically takes two years to complete, and it starts in August. Prospective candidates should apply for fall enrollment.

The 3G track admits students from all backgrounds including design, architecture, engineering, sciences, as well as humanities and the arts. This program typically takes three-and-a-half years to complete, and itÌýbegins in July. Prospective candidates should apply for summer second-session enrollment. Ìý

Master of Landscape ArchitectureÌý

The School of Landscape Architecture offers two pathways towards achieving a Master of Landscape Architecture.

The two-year pathway is designed for candidates with a background in landscape design or related fields such as architecture, urban design, and interior design. The three-year program caters to students with no previous study or degree in landscape architecture. Ìý

Landscape ArchitectureÌýProgram Requirements

  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • An essay on intent and expectations of graduate study in landscape architecture.
  • A portfolio for applicants with formal design training; otherwise, a portfolio is optional.
  • Path B applicants with a 4-year pre-professional landscape architecture, architecture, or landscape design degree who wish to apply for advanced standing must show prior design work in the portfolio.

Essay Guidelines

Your essay should indicate why you are interested in pursuing a degree in landscape architecture at UT.Ìý We encourage you to include the following in your essay:

  • Cite examples of your experiences that demonstrate the personal ambition necessary to succeed in landscape architecture at UT.
  • Discuss your primary motivations for pursuing a degree in landscape architecture.
  • Explain why the School of Landscape Architecture at UT is the preferred program for you to launch a career in landscape architecture.
