One of BUGS' aims is to connect patients with others who have lived experiences of a burn injury and can mutually support each other in their recovery.
No matter what age you are, a day out or a weekend away at a burns camp or retreat, provides that opportunity, in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere.
Their aim is total inclusivity. All those who attend have burn scars of some sort. Even though some are quite minor and some are very extensive, everyone can take part in every activity.
At camps and retreats, there may be some activities you may not normally have the opportunity to do or those that give exclusive access to places like swimming pools. You can escape and have fun in an environment that was created especially for you.
Even though these trips can be funded by other charities, BUGS appreciates that sometimes even the travel costs can be a concern. BUGS believes no-one should miss out on trips than can be of such benefit to your recovery and we will therefore also provide funding for this.

I am not sure it will be of benefit.
One of the many concerns we hear is 鈥淚 would just like to move on, or, not feel different鈥. Feedback from those who attend often tell us that they made new friends, or came back more confident having had the opportunity to talk and share their experiences with others in a similar situation. They also found listening to other people鈥檚 life stories helped them with their issues. Some people continue to support each other through social networking.
Here is just some of the feedback we receive about Children鈥檚 Burns Camp:
鈥 It helped me to gain more confidence
鈥 I strengthened my ability to talk to people who I don鈥檛 know and have made more friends
鈥 I鈥檝e learnt to be patient and accept people鈥檚 different needs
鈥 Listening to other people鈥檚 life stories helps with issues that you have
鈥 I enjoyed the weekend, activities were cool
鈥 Camp helps as I can talk to people who are the same
