Question Number 1: I would be grateful if the following questions could be passed to the relevant team or person for response under the Freedom of Information Act. • What does a standard induction/on-boarding programme look like for new starters joining your organisation? o Does this apply to all new starters regardless of contract type or length? | |
Answer To Question 1: The standard induction includes a welcome day, statutory and mandatory training for all new starters plus My First 90 days programme for most new starters which includes additional taught sessions designed to help them to settle into the trust more quickly. The programme includes a recommended schedule of 1:1s and the invitation to attend a listening event at 100 days. If new starter is a Medical trainee they receive a Medical trainee induction | |
Question Number 2: • What subjects, topics, policies, charters are covered as part of the induction/on-boarding programme? | |
Answer To Question 2: My first 90 days includes the following topics at present: Welcome; People Promise; ESR (pay and pension); Employee Value proposition, Freedom to speak up, tour of the site, hospital charities, signposting for line managers; MLE & statutory and mandatory training, wellbeing, safe and healthy hospital, green plan, waste management, clinical audit, information governance, safeguarding, introduction to leadership behaviours, civility and respect, personal and professional development, Improving Together, Trade Unions, cultural awareness, advocacy & staff networks and engagement. Medical trainee induction consists of face to face : • Welcome from MD, CMO,DME, Freedom to Speak up guardian & Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & wellbeing. • Guardian of safe working – exception reporting. • Blood transfusion policy. • IT training • Resuscitation training • Hand Hygiene assessment • Statutory & Mandatory elearning | |
Question Number 3: • What format (ie webinar, e-learning, face-to-face) does your induction/on-boarding programme take and over what length of time? | |
Answer To Question 3: Corporate induction is delivered face to face and the My First 90 Day taught sessions currently fall within the first 6 weeks. Medical trainee induction is combination of face to face and elearning | |
Question Number 4: • Following the standard recruitment process, at what point does a new starter attend any formal Corporate Induction programme? | |

Question Number 5: • Is attendance/engagement with formal induction processes an essential/mandatory requirement? o If so what is your current compliance rate? | |
Answer To Question 5: Yes day one is mandatory. A decision tree is used to clarify who needs to attend the My First 90 days taught sessions, according to role or contract type. Induction for doctors in training is delivered separately to My First 90 Days. All new starters attend induction. | |
Question Number 6: • When was the last time your induction programme was reviewed? o As a result of this review, what, if anything, changed? o Do you have any future plans to add/remove any content? o If so, what is it? | |
Answer To Question 6: My First 90 days was launched in May 2024 and evaluated in the autumn. This financial year we will be refining it further to effectively support new starters. This will include developing on-line resources for people unable to attend all the face to face sessions and continuing to improve the content of the taught sessions. Medical trainee induction is reviewed on an annual basis. | |
